The Old Grammar School

Location: Richmond, North Yorkshire

We were proud to support Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust in developing early-stage proposals for the transformation of the Grade II listed Old Grammar School in Richmond into a vibrant community building.

To help build momentum and public engagement, we created initial floor plans and rendered images that explored the building’s potential — highlighting opportunities to restore and repurpose the historic structure while making it accessible and relevant for modern use.

Our proposals included a new basement level with a glazed link overlooking the River Swale, taking advantage of the site's natural levels and setting. A considered landscaping strategy was also developed, featuring an outdoor amphitheatre and terraced spaces to enhance community use and connectivity between the building and gardens.

This early design work played a key role in visualising what the project could become — bringing clarity to the vision and helping to support funding and community conversations.
