Clear, Fair, and Tailored to Your Project

We don’t base our fees on a percentage of the construction cost. Instead, we tailor them to reflect the expertise, experience, and time required at each stage of your project - giving you a clear and realistic picture from the outset.

This may be one of the most significant projects you’ll invest in - whether it’s your home, your land, your business, or your future. Good design doesn’t just reduce risk - it adds long-term value. A well-designed building can improve your planning chances, unlock hidden potential, boost resale value, and enhance how you live and work.

What influences the fee?

Scale
The size of a project directly affects cost. Larger schemes often mean more drawings, coordination, and oversight - though sometimes a small but intricate project can demand just as much input.

Complexity
A straightforward new build can be simpler than a modest extension on a tricky site. Constraints such as planning policy, listed status, topography, or heritage can add layers of work, as can design ambition, materials, and detailing.

Performance
The higher the environmental and technical performance targets, the more design input is required. While this doesn’t always mean higher build costs, it does demand greater upfront investment in careful design.

What influences the fee?

How our fees are structured?

We align our services with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Work – a clear framework used by UK architects to guide projects from first conversations through to completion:

  • Stages 0-5 (early ideas through to detailed design and tendering) are charged as fixed fees for our core architectural services. These are tailored to your project’s scope and complexity, and clearly broken down by stage.
  • Stages 6-7 (construction and post-completion) are usually charged at an hourly rate, based on how involved you'd like us to be.
  • Additional services (like feasibility studies, design statements, or joinery drawings) are always agreed separately - based on what your project genuinely needs.

You’ll always know what’s included, what it costs, and why it matters. No surprises. No hidden extras. Just clear, honest advice - tailored to your project.

Who You're Working With

When comparing fees, it’s worth taking a moment to understand who you’re working with.
We are registered with the ARB (Architects Registration Board) and chartered with RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) - the two main professional bodies regulating and recognising qualified architects in the UK.

That means:

  • We’ve completed at least 7 years of accredited training and professional experience
  • We follow a strict code of conduct
  • We carry appropriate insurance
  • And we’re committed to ongoing learning and best practice

Not everyone offering design services is a qualified architect. If you're ever unsure, just ask to see credentials. It’s a simple way to ensure your project is in safe, skilled hands.

We believe in raising standards - and helping clients make informed choices with confidence.
