Extension and Remodel Works

Location: Hartforth, North Yorkshire

Our clients approached us with a clear brief: to transform two modest semi-detached Dales cottages into a single, generous family home that would offer modern living without losing its rural character.

The design introduces a striking two-storey glazed link that connects the original cottages to a new-build stone extension. This glazed seam not only increases the overall footprint but creates a dramatic architectural pause — offering visual and spatial connection across both floors and allowing light to pour into the heart of the home.

The new extension, constructed using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for energy efficiency and thermal performance, accommodates open-plan kitchen and dining areas, while the original cottages were carefully restored and seamlessly integrated into the new layout. The result is a home that feels both expansive and rooted — blending traditional charm
with contemporary design.

Set around a landscaped courtyard, the wider scheme includes a triple garage with annex accommodation above, a small detached office building, and full external works — all designed to create a cohesive, flexible family estate in the heart of the countryside.
